Beginning July 15, 2018, transfers between agencies will be exclusively on TAP. This is officially referred to as Transfer on 2nd Boarding.
What is Transfer on 2nd Boarding?
Transfer on 2nd Boarding refers to the board-approved policy that eliminates the need for paper transfers when transferring between transit agencies. The goal of Transfer on 2nd boarding is to simplify transfers between transit agencies.
What does this mean for me?
- You must have a TAP card in order to transfer between transit agencies.
- You must have Stored Value loaded on your card to transfer between agencies; paper transfers will be eliminated.
- Your transfer fare will be calculated automatically.
- Your transfer will be valid for 2½ hours from the first trip of your journey.
How do I transfer between agencies?
Instead of purchasing paper interagency transfers, you will need to load Stored Value onto your TAP card in order to transfer between agencies. Transfer fare will automatically be deducted from your Stored Value when boarding a second transit agency within 2½ hours from the first boarding. You will benefit from faster boarding and will no longer need to carry exact change.
