FTA Funding

On September 25, 2018, United States Department of Transportation, through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), announced that Norwalk Transit System (NTS) will receive funding from FTA’s Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program. NTS was awarded $986,928, which is the second consecutive year of successfully being a recipient of these funds. Previously, NTS received $1.2 million in funding.

These funds will support the purchase of electric buses and related equipment. Basically, NTS will initially acquire two (2) zero emission electric buses in 2019 and two (2) more electric buses in 2020. The new buses will help NTS provide more environmentally friendly and cleaner transportation options to serve its 1.5 million annual passengers.

These funds are part of a diverse funding effort in order to provide our community with access to safe and reliable public transportation, as well as more modern and efficient bus service.
